| | Now that school is back in session and the weather has gotten cooler our yard is back to being the place to play if you are around. Last night two of Adia's closest friends in the neighborhood were over. One lives next door and has been there about a year and a half. The other lives behind us and is a more recent addition to the neighborhood. Well, last night M the newer girl was here while I was cooking dinner. She was sitting in the kitchen talking to me while I cooked. I was making calzones and she had never seen anyone make dough and was amazed by the entire process. It broke my heart to have someone so amazed with normal meal preparation. While she was in the kitchen with me, she was asking many questions. One question she asked several times was, "Do all your kids have the same dad?" followed by, "And he lives here?" "Has he ever been in jail?" See M and her brother have different dads and both are in jail. Her mom has to work a lot to support them so these were justified questions. It is heart breaking.
Then this morning the kids and I were discussing life not being fair. They were telling me that life wasn't fair and I was all prepared for them to give me a bunch of things that aren't fair for them. But instead they were telling me what isn't fair for M. Adia was pretty sad that M's dad is in jail so he can't be with her. E was sad that their mom has to work so she isn't with them. Yes kids truly life isn't fair it is so much more unfair then you could ever imagine. |
